Ghibli Museum~

Hey Humans!

Today I visited the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka! I didn't manage to get tickets last time I was in Japan as they are usually sold out months before the dates you want to visit. This time round I made sure I got tickets before I went to Japan though JTB (UK) and they let you book dates 3 months in advance.

The Ghibli museum is very easy to get to and is approx 41 mins to get to from Shinjuku Station. The easiest route is using the Chuo Line to Kichijoji Station. From there they have a bus that goes directly to the Museum from the station or it is a 15-20 min walk from there.

I always recommend walking when you can in Japan as you get to see more. I found some Sakura which had bloomed super early in the park on the walk there. This was the only tree to be in bloom I seen during my entire trip. The park surrounding the Museum is beautiful and good place to catch some Pokemon too!

I spent a while enjoying the park and eventually got to the Museum after 2. The tickets I got aloud entry for whatever time you wanted on 3/03/2017. It tends to be quieter in the afternoon because a lot of people queue for entry in the morning. The museum is open until 6pm so I did not mind arriving a little later. Some tickets have set time slots so always check before you go!

The sign for the entrance of the museum was dead cute! It had little totoro on the top of it! They also have a giant one in a ticket office booth with soot sprites underneath!

Inside you are unfortunately not permitted to take photos which adds to the wonder of the museum. Lucky that the outside is beautiful and looked even better in the sunshine! The museum itself was colourful and unique with entwining in the surrounding nature. I adored the stained glass windows, with them being high up and that you couldn't take photos I sneakily took one outside of the kodama stained glass that was Princess Mononoke themed.

The outside also had a cool water pump feature too! And even more soot sprites! I liked just chilling in the surroundings of the museum as it was really cool and had nice vibes.

Inside they had an animation exhibit which has lots of diorama's. The most impressive of them was a huge one that rotated the figures and showed the movement of them by using quick strobe lights. The other exhibit rooms had various models and displays form the Ghibli movies. I liked the art process room the most as I already have the art books of Kiki Delivery Service, My Neighbour Totoro and Spirited Away.

I found that in some rooms that it was hard to see everything as it was small compared to the amount of people in them but I solved that by exploring the rooftop where you could get some awesome photos with Laputa castle in the Sky robot. They also have a cafe and gift shop to visit. Personally I do not think you can spend more than a few hours here as it is small but there is lots to see and is a pretty magical place even if you are not a Ghibli fan!

What is your favourite Studio Ghibli film?
